We run a number of programs to support the education and wellbeing of our children, because, well why wouldn't we?
Two of our key THS community educational support programs are ...
"By your side"
The by-your-side program is a way for parents to assist our student leadership group initiatives.
The THS Student Leadership Group (THS-SLG) is a key part of the THS community; they work on many student driven initiatives, which in themselves have an educational value and resulting impact on the THS environment and the community at large (via charities).
We assist their initiatives by directly funding or matching the funds they raise.
As we work together to educate the younger members of our community (typically our children) it is important that we support the professional learning support team with their innovations in learning.
The together program is a way for the professional learning support team to reach out to parents (via the P&C) for assistance; in the form of funding or perhaps parent expertise.
Supporting the transformation of the learning environment at THS.
"Education either functions as an instrument which is used to facilitate integration of the younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world".
Turramurra High School is currently transforming everything that relates to the how our children learn - as parents the more we know, the more we can support the experts on this journey.
Transforming from academic excellence to ethical competence (as a part of human agency), using the 4Cs [collaboration, creativity, communication & critical reflection/thinking] as the base framework.
In the future (now) it will be the human ethical decisions that will define our society and not the academic decisions, as those decisions become more and more AI based.
Intrapersonal = Self
Interpersonal = Others
Cognition = Thinking
Most Likely to Succeed Film
To aid with transformative learning initiatives at THS, we have purchased the Most Likely To Succeed film using the THS P&C together fund.
"Most Likely To Succeed is a thought-provoking documentary feature film that reveals the growing shortcomings of conventional education methods in today's innovative world. The film explores compelling new approaches that aim to revolutionize education as we know it, inspiring school communities to reimagine what students and teachers are capable of doing. To date, MLTS has screened for thousands of audiences around the world, igniting conversations and empowering change along the way. Share the film with your community to activate change now.
From Director Greg Whiteley (Last Chance U, Mitt,) and Executive Producer Ted Dintersmith (author, Most Likely to Succeed)."
Teacher Selection Panel Assistance
Each teacher selection panel includes a P&C representative (parent) to help with creating the job criteria, short listing, interviewing and selection.
If you have completed the training as part of your involvement with another school then it is valid and you just need to sent the certificate to the P&C president ...
... else, the first step is for the parent to complete the online training.
Once you complete the training successfully you will be issued a certificate, which you then send to the P&C president and you will be added to the list of certified parents.
When a panel is to be formed the convenor will then contact the P&C and check your availability etc
Also, you will need to be a financial member of the P&C - join online here.
What's involved in being on a selection panel?
1. Assisting with the role criteria "job ad"; typically by email.
2. Reviewing the applications; online/by email.
3. Shortlisting; meet at the school (or zoom) and create a short list based on applicants and then call shortlisted applicants two referees - the duration depends on the number of applicants and how many are shortlisted. Decide on who to interview.
4. Interviewing; meet at the school, typically one week after shortlisting, and assist with the interviews (typically 30 to 45min) - the duration obviously depends on how may are being interviewed. Once interviews are completed, discuss and then call third referee. Final discussion/selection.
Educational Shift Towards "Education 3.0"
The changing educational model
This is not a project, it is a deep society wide change in why we educate, for now and forever.. it’s continuous and we are all involved...
